Adverb and types of adverb
Adverb
An adverb qualifies a verb, an Adjective or an other Adverb.
1. She reads only good books.
2 . This flower is very beautiful.
3. It rained heavily yesterday.
4. They play football extremely well.
Types of Adverb
The Adverbs are divided according to their meanings in the following types.
1. Adverbs of Time (which show when)
Early, late, always, ever, never, after, afterwards, today, to-morrow, yesterday, soon, ago, once, since, next, frequently, presently, etc.
Examples
1. I have a letter from her lately.
2. He goes to school daily.
3. I hurt my leg today.
4. My parents formerly lived here.
2. Adverbs of Place (which show where)
Here, there, away, far, out, below, above, near, in under, up, outside, inside, along , within, without, every, when, etc.
Examples
1. The horse galloped away.
2. My son is jumping on the bed.
3. The boys are playing cricket in the playground .
4. He called me at his home.
3. Adverbs of Manner (which show how or in what manner)
They show the manner of the action and generally answer to the question how well, badly, rightly, quickly, loudly, neatly, etc.
Examples
1. Najam speaks English fluently.
2. I slept soundly.
3 Emma reads clearly.
4 The students work hard.
4. Adverbs of Affirmation or Negation
Yes, no, not, certainly, surely, probably, possibly, undoubtedly and indeed etc.
1. The train arrived exactly on time.
2. My friend certainly come.
3. I don't know him.
5 Adverbs of frequency (which show how often)
Twice, often, again , frequently, once , seldom, always
Examples
1. The peon called again.
2. I have told you twice.
3 She seldom comes her grandmother home.
4. I always help poor .
6. Adverbs of Degree or quantity (which show how much , or in what degree , to what extent)
Very, much, little, more, most , less , least , too , almost, partly , farther , quite , enough , altogether , fully , some what and so
Examples
1. These bananas are almost ripe.
2. I am so glad.
3. My cousin sings pretty well.
4 She is too careful.
7 Adverbs of Reasons or Cause ( which show why)
Therefore , accordingly, hence , consequently and why
Examples
1. Because she was not feeling well , she didn't go to school today.
2. Beena is hence unable to refute the charge.
3. I was hungry, so I ate food.
4 He was never late for school, therefore he was awarded as the best Student.
