Conjunctions are words that joins or link together words and sentences.
Conjunctions are:
And , but, or, for, so,
either _or, neither _nor, both _ and though _yet, whether _Or, not only _ but also
Examples
1. Neha and Charles are good singers.
2. He ran fast but he missed the bus.
3 You will pass the exam if you work hard.
4. We both love and respect our parents.
Kinds of conjunctions
There are three kinds of conjunctions.
1 Coordinating conjunctions
2 Subordinating conjunctions
3. Correlative conjunctions
1 Coordinating conjunctions
These conjunctions join together words or sentences of equal rank . The word coordinating means of equal rank.
The Coordinating conjunctions are:
For, and, nor, but, or, yet , so, hence, however, only, either, also
Examples
1. I am a teacher but my brother is a doctor.
2. Two and two make four.
3. He must weep or he will die.
4 Something certainly fell in for I heard a splash.
5 Aliza and Emma are good students.
2 Subordinating conjunctions
Subordinating conjunctions join a clause or sentences to another on which it depends for its full meaning.
The chiefs Subordinating conjunctions are
Because, as, that, while, unless, though, since, if, when , till, although, before
Examples
1. I didn't come because you didn't invite me.
2. He finished first though he began late.
3. When I was child, I thought so.
4 I do not understand how it happened.
3 Correlative conjunctions
These conjunctions are used in pairs each of the correlatived words should be placed immediately before the words to be connected.
Examples
1 She does not care whether you eat or not.
2 She visited not only Gilgit but also Hunza.
3 Neither she nor her sister is present in the house.
4 As you sow, so shall you reap.
