Such words as Hi! ,Alas! Hurrah etc are called interjections.


Definition

An interjection is a word which is used to express sudden feeling or emotion.

They are not grammatically related to the other words in a sentence.

Interjections may express

1 Joy as, Hurrah! Huzza

2. Grief as, Alas!

3. Surprise as, ha! What!

4 Approval; as bravo!


 Examples 

1. Hurrah! It's time to go home.

2. Wow! That's a beautiful dress indeed.

3 Alas! He is no more.

4  Oh! You gave me shivers.

5. Bravo! Marry has won the race.

Some groups of words are also used as interjections.

Ah me! 

For shame!

Good heavens!

Well done!
