Pronoun and Types of Pronoun

Pronoun

Pronoun is a word that can replace a noun in a sentence. 

 For  example 
1. She has many books in her bag. 





2. You have to go to my birthday party.






3. He speaks English fluently. 





                Types of pronoun 

    (a) Personal pronouns 

     I, we, they, you, he, she,it

     (b) Demonstrative  pronouns

    this, that, these, those

     (c) Relative pronouns 

    who, which, that, What

    d) Interrogative pronouns

    What , which , who

      (e) Reflexive pronouns  
      myself, itself, themselves, himself , herself , ourselves

       (f) Distributive pronouns
        each, either, neither

      g) Indefinite  pronouns
      one, any, anyone, anything, anybody, some, someone, somebody, all,

      a)  Personal Pronouns stand for three persons, For examples

      (1) The first person
      (2) The e second person
       (3) The third person.
       I , we , they , you , she , he , it , mine , my , me, him and her etc.

      b) Demonstrative Pronouns 

      Pronouns which demonstrate or point to some nouns going before are called
      demonstrative Pronouns .
      Demonstrative pronouns are
       this, these, that, those, such, same, etc 

      1 It is clear. 
      2 The pen that you gave me was good. 
      3 I asked him and he told me the same . 
      4  This is a gift from my cousin. 

      d  Relative Pronouns

      c) A Relative Pronoun relates to Noun or other Pronoun going before. 

         Relative Pronoun are

      Whose, Who, Whom, Which , Whom, That and what, whoever , whichever.
      Examples 
      1. I met my friend who has just returned.
      2. Here the bag that you bought  from market.
      3. This is the boy who works hard.
      4. These are the students whom all praise. 


       d)  Interrogative Pronouns

      Interrogative Pronouns as appear from their very name, are pronouns for
      questions. 

      (a) who, whose, whom are used for persons

      (b)which is used in selective sense and is used when one wants to know about a particular person, animal or thing

      Who, who, what, which, etc.

      what for persons, animals and things
      Examples
      1. What is your name? 
      2  whose  cell phone is this? 
      3 whom do you want? 
      4. Which of the pictures do you like best? 

      e)  Reflexive Pronouns

      When self is added to say, your, him , her ,it , my and selves to our, your and them we get Reflexive Pronouns. 

      For example
      1  I hurt myself.
      2  you will hurt yourself. 
      3 They hurt themselves.
      We hurt ourselves. 

      enjoy, hang, avail

      Note: Some verbs always take the Reflexive Pronouns

      He did not avail of the opportunity

      (Incorrect)

      He did not avail himself of the opportunity.

      (Correct)

      f)  Distributive Pronouns

      The pronouns like each, , either and neither are called Distributive Pronouns a they refer to the Pronouns being used in individual or collective capacity both in positive and negative meanings.
      Examples
      1. Each of the students receives a prize. 
      2. Either of you can come.
      3. Neither of the accusations is true. 


      g)   lndefinite pronoun 

      The pronouns referring to indefinite nouns are called indefinite pronouns. 
      Examples 
      One , any ,  many, anyone, anything , anybody , something , someone , all

      1. One hardly knows what to do.
      2. Some are born great.
      3.  Somebody has stolen my wallet.
      4. Nobody was there to rescue the child. 
      5. Many of them are Muslim.
