Past  Perfect Continuous Tense

Formula

Subject + had been + V(1)+ ing


Learn English Grammar tells you about the past perfect continuous tense by using several instances.
Here are some simple and more easy examples using the given formula above.

1. She had been laughing.
2 He had been eating.
3  They had been running.

 Negative Sentences

Subject + had + not+been+ V(1) + ing.

For example


1  They had  not been reading for two hours
2   She had not been sleeping for five hours.
3.  We had not been constructing the building. 

Interrogative Sentences

Had + Subject + been +V(1) + ing ?

1  Had they been playing football?
2 Had she been sleeping for five hours? 
3  Had  they been reading for two hours? 
4  Had  she been laughing? 
5  Had he been eating? 



It is used to describe an action which is in progress somewhere in the past and continue until another action .

For example

1 They had been playing volleyball for two hours when it started to rain.
